Nuclear industry and Big Science

CNIM Systèmes Industriels will supply Sizewell C with civil engineering equipment for the nuclear power station.

Sizewell C is one of the UK’s largest infrastructure projects, involving the construction of two EPR reactors with a total capacity of 3.2 GW. These two reactors will be replications of those at the Hinkley Point C power station.

For over 50 years, CNIM Systèmes Industriels has been designing and manufacturing secure handling systems adapted to the most demanding and challenging environments. As a partner of choice in the design and manufacture of complex and specific handling systems for large, heavy, and critical packages such as nuclear fuel and waste, we have already supplied equipment for French and Chinese EPR reactors as well as for Hinkley Point C.

At this point, we will supply Sizewell C with the civil engineering equipment for each unit that will ultimately house the Spent Fuel Cask Transfer Facility:

  • Running rails + rails between units
  • A penetration structure equipped with plugs (RCC-M LEVEL 2)
  • A rotating platform for orienting the DMK trolley (KTA Additional Requirement - AR)
  • A drawbridge for entering the loading hall (KTA - AR)
  • Specific drawbridge anchorages and guiding rail anchorages (KTA - AR)
  • A ceiling liner (EN 10088 watertight stainless-steel assembly to prevent contamination of concrete by projections)
  • All associated control systems (RCC-E)
  • Associated maintenance and testing tools

The strength of our teams lies in their extensive experience, designs that comply with international regulations and the highest manufacturing standards (KTA, RCC-M, EDF CRTs, etc.), a strong culture of nuclear safety and CFSI continuous learning (ISO 19443 certification), and a vertically integrated approach: we handle everything from design to qualification, testing and commissioning.

Ultimately, we will implement the Spent Fuel Cask Transfer Facility. This system will facilitate the transfer of spent fuel to a secure transport container, then allow this container to be removed from the nuclear station for reprocessing or storage.

Thank you to the Sizewell C teams for their trust.
